"Battery storage economics change faster than most business cases assume. The projects that succeed treat market intelligence as a continuous input — not a one-off assumption."
News
Wholesale drives the upside. aFRR protects the downside.
Joint case study with Fluence: in the strongest market price scenario, green and grey storage earn around 85% of revenue on day-ahead and intraday. In the weakest, aFRR makes up 35% of green and almost half of grey storage revenue.
Green storage lowers the risk where curtailment is high. Grey storage lowers it in every scenario.
Joint case study with Fluence: a 25 MW onshore wind park across five market price scenarios to 2056. Without storage, three of five scenarios land within one point of the 8% hurdle rate. Grey storage lifts the worst case from 7,5% to 10,3% IRR.
EEG 2027: Same strike price, 27 % less revenue. Co-located storage wins most of it back.
Germany's onshore wind auction cleared at 4,79 ct/kWh. Under the EEG 2027 two-sided CfD that strike price becomes a cap, cutting revenue by 27 %. A green battery at 40–60 % of wind capacity is worth 1,4–2,0 ct/kWh of strike price.
